30 By 30: Conservation For Climate

An ambitious and visionary goal to protect 30 percent of our nation’s lands and waters by 2030

Add your voice supporting a national and global movement to conserve 30 percent of the lands and waters of the United States by 2030. Known as “30 by 30,” this inclusive and bold vision increases climate resilience and preserves biodiversity by safeguarding America’s lands, waters, and wildlife habitat. President Biden added his support for this science-based effort through an Executive Order on Tackling the Climate Crisis issued in 2021.

The 30 by 30 initiative would triple the conserved lands and waters nationwide, providing new and more equitable opportunities for outdoor recreation. Land and water conservation is a crucial tool in the fight against climate change. Forestlands and wetlands act as a carbon sink, absorbing excess greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Natural lands are also important for climate resilience, protecting communities from floods and storms. These efforts support wildlife habitats, ensure clean drinking water, and improve air quality. And beyond its environmental benefits, more conserved land helps ensure that more people can access the outdoors. Achieving the ambitious but achievable goal of 30 by 30 will require cooperative efforts at every level of government in partnership with the private sector. Federal support will be crucial for the initiative’s success, and we hope you’ll ask your Members of Congress to support it.
