Help AMC Develop its Next Outdoor Center
To provide a broad range of recreational opportunities for diverse audiences in the greater New York region and beyond.
Since its opening in 2016, our Stephen & Betsy Corman AMC Harriman Outdoor Center (CHOC) has been in high demand. With the success of this location, AMC has now signed another 40-year lease with New York State Parks and Palisades Interstate Parks Commission to completely renovate and redevelop the old Baker Camp as a second, much larger outdoor center to serve the greater New York area.
Baker Camp, located on the shores of Lake Sebago in Harriman State Park, fell into disrepair and closed in 2017. Now, AMC is raising funds to fully renovate the camp and transform it into a multisport, low-barrier oasis for individuals, families, and groups to get outdoors.
Our Vision
The new Baker facility will provide recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds to connect with nature. Located on the shores of Lake Sebago and easily accessible via Seven Lakes Drive, we'll design our new outdoor center to accomodate overnight stays, provide waterfront recreation opportunities, and serve as a base from which to explore Harriman State Park’s beautiful trail network.
A comfortable private cabin experience with AMC’s signature hearty, high-quality meals and activities will be available to guests. Our goal is to provide guests with options during their stays to bolster their confidence in the outdoors and enhance their enjoyment of and appreciation for the natural environment. Baker’s large recreation hall will be able to host special event groups, and will also serve as an outdoor learning and training facility to nurture the next generation of conservationists.
Join the Challenge
To jumpstart our fundraising efforts, three generous donors have put up a $1 million challenge. Through this special opportunity, you can double the impact of your gift and bring us one step closer to opening Baker. Naming opportunities are also available.
